Prescription Renewal Requests: Still Business as Usual During COVID-19

Office visits and elective surgeries may be postponed or conducted virtually now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but there are some things that haven’t changed in healthcare delivery. Prescription renewal requests continue to flood providers’ inboxes regardless of the pandemic’s hold on the U.S and the rest of the world. In fact, in March, prescription renewal volumes even increased, as patients prepared for the long road ahead.


Renewal requests can easily get backed up when completed by providers and staff who may be focused on patient-facing clinical work. Unfortunately, there are many providers still completing all renewal requests themselves, and depending on their specialty and number of patients, this task alone could be taking up to an hour each day.
